Snowboarding Levels

Snowboard Level – BEGINNER

I have never boarded.

Aim: Get my position right, start to board and be independent on the green run, use a good technique, choose a route which corresponds to my level, learn about safety rules, control my speed.

I will learn to:

  • Put on and take off my shoes,
  • Adjust my equipment,
  • Do a 1/2 turn on the ground and get up,
  • Slide on one foot,
  • Take the chairlift or cablecar,
  • Choose the runs which correspond to my level,
  • The emergency stop,  sliding with front foot forward,
  • Sliding ‘switch’,
  • Carry out a Back Side turn,
  • Carry out a Front Side turn.

ESF test: Welcome to Snowboard or 1st Snowboard

Snowboard Level – 1st Snowboard

 I can turn on both sides on a green run.

Aim: Perfect my turns, master ‘schuss’ (fast, straight) runs, discover jumps, choose a mogul, learn to get round the snow park whilst respecting safety rules, board in powder.

I will learn to:

  • Slow down using basic rounded sideslip.
  • Stop.  Develop a basic turn.
  • Complete ‘falling leaf’ movement.

ESF Test: 1st Snowboard

Snowboard Level- 2nd Snowboard

I can complete turns on both sides on a blue run.

Aim: Perfect my turns on red runs, master schuss runs, discover jumps and figures, choose a mogul, learn to get around the snow park whilst respecting safety rules, board in powder.

I will learn to:

  • Complete a straight descent with a planned jump.
  • Board using refined rounded sideslip.
  • Complete basic turns.

ESF Test: 2nd Snowboard

Snowboard Level- 3rd Snowboard

I can board in all snow conditions and I can complete some jumps and figures.

Aim: Initiation to competitions. Half pipe, boarder cross, straight descents.

I will learn to:

  • Complete a route on both edges or do a 180° ollie.
  • Reproduce set actions.
  • Complete a ‘godille’ on a sustained descent.
